summer camps
Exploring Clay & Ceramics
Grades 1 – 5
If you want to learn more about clay and ceramics, this camp is for you! Students will learn traditional hand building skills used in constructing functional and sculptural ceramics. Each project will explore current and historical ceramic artists and how the projects connect and relate to each lesson. Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of pottery hand building techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab building and sculpting decorations. Some of the artists and artworks that we will discuss may include: Peter Anton, Roberto Lugo, and Beatrice Wood or Historical artists/ceramic works exhibited in Smithsonian, Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art.

PAINTING AND DRAWING

Spend a week painting and drawing at our Painting & Drawing camp. Artists will explore different painting and drawing techniques and mediums – a great intro into the fine arts.
- Class is limited so students will receive individual and small-group instruction in a supportive environment.
- All levels welcome and recommended for ages 6 and up.

Manny Villalobos "Mr. Manny"
Art Teacher
Manuel Adolfo Villalobos is a Fine Artist, Musician and Art Educator from New York. He has achieved a bachelors in Art Education from Long Island University Post and is also a co-founding member of the alternative hip-hop group A SideOf Darkness (A.S.O.D), were he goes under the stage name OG Manny G. Through his music and art he expresses socially and politically driven awareness which is showcased in his artwork and rhythmic lyrics.

Art Teacher
Kerri Shiekman is a Port Washington resident. She received a B.A. in Studio Art and a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Adelphi University., has student taught at Weber Middle School in Port Washington. Kerri is an award winning artist and has shown her work across Long Island for nearly 20 years. She predominately works with watercolor but has a strong background in drawing, painting, mixed media, and sculpture. Kerri is looking forward to sharing her love of art with the students at The Art Guild.

The Art Guild is located on the Elderfields Preserve in Manhasset/Port Washington on the Gold Coast of Long Island. We are housed in the oldest building in Nassau County. Camps are held outdoors in the beautiful Elderfields Preserve. We utilize the outdoor Preserve grounds offering our campers a wonderful artistic retreat and experience the great outdoors!

Cancellation Policies
STUDENT CANCELLATIONS
- Registration cancellations made one month or more prior to the start of camp will receive a full refund, less a $25 cancellation fee.
- Registration cancellations made less than one month prior to the start of camp will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
- Absolutely no refunds once the first day of camp begins.
Membership is non-refundable.
CAMP CANCELLATIONS
- Camp may be canceled due to insufficient registration, or for any other reason. If this does occur, you will be notified and a full refund will be issued in the original form of payment.
- The Art Guild reserves the right to cancel due to unsafe weather conditions, building conditions, instructor illness or other unforeseen circumstances. If this does occur, you will be notified. We will do our best to reschedule a makeup when possible. If a makeup date cannot be scheduled or the student cannot attend the rescheduled date, a full refund for that class will be issued in the original form of payment.

Things to know before coming to camp
Drop off & Pick Up
Drop off and pick up is at the rear of the house along the driveway. (You can pull up on the side of the building; no need to park).
Parking
Please park designated spots between the painted lines. DO NOT PARK in front of the “Reserved Parking for Residents” signs on the blacktop! Additional spots are on the gravel by the big tree and up the hill by the red barn. Please do not park on Port Washington Blvd or along side the blacktop or you may be towed. If you are having trouble parking, please give us a call at 516-304-5797.
Food & Snacks
Bring a beverage and a nut-free snack. If you are staying for both sessions, please bring lunch. There is a free hour between 1-2pm to eat and relax (supervised but no programming).
- Please inform The Art Guild of any allergies, physical or dietary limitations, and/or concerns that may relate to you or your child(ren). It is the responsibility of the member or the child’s parent/guardian to inform The Art Guild of any allergies (e.g. peanuts) that would be of concern.
What to Bring
Camp is held outdoors under a tent. Kids will be moved indoors if there are unsafe weather conditions.
Children should have sunscreen applied prior to arriving at camp (we will have sunscreen that children can rub in themselves for emergencies).
Light jacket or sweatshirt if the weather will be cooler.
Campers should apply bug repellent before arriving at camp if desired (there will be bug spray available for emergencies).
