Beauty in The Abstract – An Exploration
Juried Competition & Exhibition

What is considered beautiful in Abstract Art? Is it a question of taste? One person’s stop-in-your-tracks beautiful is another person’s ugly. This exhibit seeks to offer differing ideas of beauty in Abstract Art. What is YOUR idea of Beauty?
MEDIUMS Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal. No photography.
JUROR Stan Brodsky A life-long resident of the New York area, he taught at C. W. Post College for 31 years and is now Professor Emeritus of Art. He has exhibited extensively for more than 50 years and received the Heckscher Museum’s 2013 Celebrate Achievement Award, for contributions to Long Island arts and culture.

2016 Nassau County High School Student Juried Exhibit
at The Art Guild at Elderfields

CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Art Guild invites all Nassau County High School Students to submit digital images of their 2D or 3D artworks for consideration to its “Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition & Exhibition” which will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Historic Preserve.
CRITERIA: All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Student’s 2D or 3D work must be original and done “by hand” (no mechanical reproductions or giclees) and created within the last two years. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from October 31 – November 27, 2016. No exceptions.
MEDIUMS: Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, digital art, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal. (NO COPIES, PHOTOGRAPHY, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES.)
SIZE: Maximum size 30 x 30 inches including frame.

ENTRY FEE: $25.00 for up to TWO entries per student.
Each student must fill out a separate form. No combining of fees or entries.

All entries MUST be submitted as digital files in JPG format, between 1 and 3 MB each, with 2,000 to 4,000 pixels on longest side. Label digital images as follows: artist’s lastname_firstname_entrynumber_title.jpg. (example: smith_john_1_beachsunset.jpg).
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 14
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: The Art Guild Selection Committee will review all entries and notify each artist as to the acceptance of submitted work by October 13, 2016. The Art Guild has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose which eligible entries will be accepted to be exhibited. All decisions are final.
FRAMING: Artwork must be framed unless gallery wrapped. Mat boards must be clean. All work must be securely wired for hanging with the wire attached via screw eyes or D-rings to the frame. ABSOLUTELY NO sawtooth hangers, duct tape, or glued on wires. Label back of work with artist’s name and title of piece. Please contact The Art Guild with ANY questions or concerns.

Visual Trick/ Visual Treat
October 1 – 30, 2016

As we enter the mystical season of Halloween, artists are invited to submit works that “trick” or “treat” us. Trick everyone with a trompe-l’oeil or treat us to some beautiful eye candy. Don’t be afraid to let your imagination conjure up something magical, supernatural or macabre!
JUROR Steve Lampasona. Steve has been teaching in NYC and Long Island for over 30 years. He was an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community Collage and an instructor at the Nassau County Museum and the Art League of Long Island. He has exhibited in NYC at O. K. Harris and Gallery Henoch, and was represented by the Capricorn Gallery in Washington D.C. Primarily a painter, he has also done a number of corporate and residential installations combining 2 and 3 dimensional design. He opened his own school 3 1/2 years ago, The Artist’s Studio, at Chelsea Mansion, Muttontown, NY.

Town of North Hempstead Town Hall
CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Town of North Hempstead (ToNH) will hold its first Arts Matter! exhibit at The Town of North Hempstead Town Hall, 220 Plandome Road, Manhasset, NY 11030. Artists are invited to enter artwork inspired by the beauty of the Town of North Hempstead.
CRITERIA: All artists 18 years and older who reside in the ToNH or are employees of businesses based in the ToNH or anyone affiliated with an arts organization in the ToNH. Entry fee, $25 for one entry per person. Artwork must be available September 26 – November 30, 2016 and have been completed with in the last three years. Works may not be removed from the show before 9 am, December 1, 2016.
No Exceptions.
MEDIUMS: Including, but not limited to, acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, drawing, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints. (NO PHOTOGRAPHY, Digital art, COPIES, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES or sculpture, PLEASE.)
ENTRIES: Works can NOT exceed 36” x 36”, including frame. Submissions must be received by September 2.
Digital submissions must be sent via email to artsmatter@theartguild.org, subject line “2016 Arts Matter!” and should be between 1 and 3MB each. Images MUST be named as follows:

Artists whose work has been selected for inclusion in this juried competition and exhibition will be notified by September 9, 2016.
SIZE And Framing: Size, with frame, must not exceed 36” x 36”. All work must be cleanly matted and/or framed or gallery wrapped, wired for hanging, with the wire attached via screw eyes or D-rings to the frame, not the backboard. No sawtooth hangers. No tape or string on the back or edges. Work should be labeled on back with the title, artist’s name, phone number, and email address.
Delivery of ARTWORK: Selected artwork is to be delivered, ready for display, to the Town of North Hempstead Town Hall, 220 Plandome Road, Manhasset, NY 11030. Please bring an artist’s statement that includes a short description of where or what in ToNH inspired your artwork.
LIABILITY & INSURANCE: The Liability Waiver on the entry form must be signed by the artist submitting images for consideration. It is the responsibility of the participating artist to insure or self-insure any work submitted for inclusion in this exhibit.

Fur Fins & Feathers

Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony: September 11, 2016, 3-5pm
“Fur, Fins and Feathers” – More than just tributes to pets, animals in art often symbolize ideas from political to moral. From cave drawings to faithful companions, the noble steads of generals to Japanese fish prints and Audubon’s portfolios, animals of all kinds have “captured” the imagination of artists throughout history.
JUROR DENIS PONSOT is an artist with over 35 years of experience in the field. He teaches classes in watercolor painting at the Art League of Long Island, The School of Visual Arts and the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan. Denis also teaches classes in watercolor and oil painting at the Gurwin Jewish Assistive Living Residences. During the school year, Denis teaches classes for all ages out of his private studio in Queens, NY. In the summer, his studio transforms into Denis Ponsot Fine Arts Summer Camp, where students gain experience in every medium from sculpture to collage. Denis’ work has been in exhibitions at the Art League of Long Island Members Exhibition and the Salmagundi Art Club non-member Juried Exhibition.
