JUROR FRANK PORCU Mr Porcu is an artist and teacher, known for his dynamic larger than life lectures on anatomy for art and medical students He specializes in monumental figurative works and portraiture, in the late classical Hellenistic tradition. Photography Exhibit: Shedding Light on the Subject
Juried Photography Competition & Exhibition

CALL FOR ENTRIES The Art Guild invites all artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), to submit photographic works for consideration for “Shedding Light on The Subject” a Juried Photography Competition and Exhibition.
Light enables photographers to make beautiful and striking images. How do you use light, in all its forms, to shed light on your subject and create compelling visions? We’re looking for creativity and originality – work that reflects your unique approach and style.
Criteria All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. All works must be original. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from January 28 – February 25, 2018.
JUROR OF AWARDS: Katherine Criss is a fine art photographer, with more than sixty years professional experience in photography, painting and creating opportunities for artists to share their vision. In 2001, under the mentorship of Ernestine Ruben, Ms. Criss refined her series of layered surreal images.
A NYC native, Katherine was encouraged by her father, a prominent American painter, Francis Criss, to join a photography class taught by Bernice Abbott at the New School. Later after completing a BFA at SVA, she established a freelance photo business, (Have Camera Will Travel), and consulted on projects such as an exhibition of vintage photographs for the National Board of the YWCA. In 1992 she joined PWP (Professional Women Photographers) and served as President for seven years. Katherine moved to Long Island in 2006 joined the b. j. spoke gallery founding the ongoing Artist Circle group that meets regularly at the gallery in Huntington. In 2016 she created a mural, and donated it to the town of Riverhead. Katherine has served as a juror for the National League of American Pen Women, the Long Island Branch, and has images in the collection of La Maison Euopeene de la Photographie, Paris.

Photography Exhibit: From My Perspective Feb 4-26, 2017
“FROM MY PERSPECTIVE,” a Juried Photography Competition and Exhibition. Angle, standpoint, viewpoint. What makes your photographic perspective special and captivating? We’re looking for creativity and originality – work that reflects your unique approach and style.
JUROR OF AWARDS: John Bruno A passionate devotee of the genre for over 37 years, John’s background is perhaps as diverse as it gets. A photographer for the NY Giants, Mets, Islanders, and the NY Racing Association, he has also been a wedding photographer for over 30 years. He enjoys producing unconventional images rich in color and as far from a “structured” photographic environment as possible. Currently John serves as Program Chairman for the Great Neck Camera Club and is a member of the Photo Artists’ Network (PHAN). He is also a Past President of the Port Washington Camera Club; Past Vice President of the Photographic Federation of LI.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Art Guild invites all Nassau County High School Students to submit digital images of their 2D or 3D artworks for consideration to its “Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition & Exhibition” which will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Historic Preserve.
CRITERIA: All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Student’s 2D or 3D work must be original and done “by hand” (no mechanical reproductions or giclees) and created within the last two years. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from October 31 – November 27, 2016. No exceptions.
MEDIUMS: Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, digital art, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal. (NO COPIES, PHOTOGRAPHY, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES.)
SIZE: Maximum size 30 x 30 inches including frame.
JUROR: Bennett Horowitz was born and raised in Queens County in New York City. He recently retired from teaching after spending seven years offering studio and art history instruction at the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan, in order to devote himself fulltime to fine arts painting. Horowitz is now primarily focused on developing his own Expressionist style of landscape painting; in the past he has also done a great deal of portrait/narrative figure painting. Horowitz received his BFA from Pratt Institute and his MFA from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, with additional training in graphic design, typography and computer graphics at the School of Visual Arts. He has worked professionally as an illustrator and magazine designer. Horowitz has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony; his artwork has been exhibited at the Queens Museum and the Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, as well as numerous other solo and group shows.
ENTRY FEE: $25.00 for up to TWO entries per student.
Each student must fill out a separate form. No combining of fees or entries.

Palate to Palette: The Art of Food & Dining

CALL FOR ENTRIES Call for entries Art Guild invites all artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), to submit artworks for consideration for “Palate to Palette: The Art of Food and Dining” a Juried Competition and Exhibition. From sumptuous still-lifes or a single shiny apple, from casual picnics and farmers markets to elaborate thanksgiving dinners, food helps define tradition and culture, trigger memories and make new ones. Show us your favorites!
Criteria All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. All works must be original, and have been created in the last five years. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from October 2 – 29, 2017.

JUROR Susan Goetz Zwirn is the Director and Professor of Art Education at Hofstra University. Susan teaches courses in arts education, studio art, museums, and research on the brain and learning. She grew up in Port Washington and is honored to have raised and educated her children there.
As a painter, Susan’s art encompasses the realistic and abstract in both landscape and figurative images. Her work reflects a strong sense of place and mood, having been inspired by travel as well as her local surroundings of Long Island, NY. Susan’s paintings have been exhibited nationally and received many awards; much of her art can be found in personal and corporate collections in the US and abroad.
Susan received her undergraduate degree from Clark University and her graduate degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University.

Work should be cleanly matted and/or framed (if appropriate), wired securely for hanging, with the wire attached via screw eyes or D-rings to the frame, not the backboard. (Gallery wraps are acceptable.) No saw tooth hangers, no tape or string on the back. Work must be labeled with the title (if any), artist’s name, phone number, and email address. The Art Guild reserves the right to turn away any artwork that does not comply.

LIABILITY & INSURANCE The Liability Waiver on the entry form must be signed by the artist submitting images for consideration. It is the responsibility of the participating artist to insure or self-insure any work submitted for inclusion in this exhibit.
