Juried Competition & Exhibition

Yellow has been a color of choice by many famous artists for centuries. Think of VanGogh’s Sunflowers or O’Keefe’s Yellow Sweet Peas. Yellow is used to convey warmth, brightness and positivity. We invite artists to explore the inviting hues of yellow. Whether it’s the warm glow of a sunrise, the joyful petals of a sunflower or the golden tones of autumn leaves…yellow can be the star or supporting cast for this exhibition. 

Artists age 18 and older are invited to submit artwork for consideration for this exhibit.

RULES FOR THE JURIED COMPETITION

 

Criteria
  • All styles from realism to abstract are welcome.
  • All works must be original, and have been created in the last five years.
  • References used in the creation of the submitted work must be the artist’s own, or copyright-released for use in this work.
  • Works previously exhibited at The Art Guild Gallery will not be considered.
  • All artwork must be framed. Frame size must not exceed 36” on the longest side. Gallery wraps are acceptable, but must be at least 1” thick and must not exceed 36″ on the longest side.
  • Ages 18 and over.
Mediums
  • Included but not limited to acrylic, charcoal, collage, colored pencil, digital art, ink, mixed media, oil, pastel, pencil, printmaking, sculpture, or watercolor.
  • No Photography, Copies, Master Copies, Reproductions or Giclees
Entry Fees
  • Members: $35 (1-2 pieces)
  • Non-members: $45 (1-2 pieces)
  • One additional entry: $10 (per person)
  • No more than 3 works per artist

Please be aware that the digital images you send should look as good as they possibly can. These will be the images that will be will be reviewed by our curators and displayed in our online gallery. Try to photograph your image in natural light, that the image is straight and that there is no glare on glass or varnished surface.

FINALISTS & AWARDS

FINALISTS:

The Selection Committee will review all entries and notify each artist as to the acceptance of the submitted work. High school students will be reviewed and judged separately. The Art Guild has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose which eligible entries will be accepted to be exhibited. All decisions are final. Artists whose work has been selected will be notified either by email OR on our website.

AWARDS:

1st Place $300 • 2nd Place $200 • 3rd Place $100 • Honorable Mentions

SIZE & FRAMING

All artwork must be framed. Frame size must not exceed 36” on the longest side. Gallery wraps are acceptable, but must be at least 1” thick and must not exceed 36″ on the longest side.

It must be wired securely for hanging with screw eyes or D-rings to the frame, NOT the backboard. No sawtooth hangers, tape, strings.  We can wire for you for a $10 fee.

Work must be labeled on the back with the title, artist’s name, street address, phone number, and email.

Framing of your work must comply with the above OR IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

SELLING YOUR ARTWORK

Artwork may be sold directly by the artist with a suggested donation of 20% of the selling price from the artist to The Art Guild. Note, however, that sales may not be made at the exhibition.

All work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibit.

LIABILITY & INSURANCE

The Liability Waiver on the entry form must be signed by the artist submitting images for consideration. It is the responsibility of the participating artist to insure or self-insure any work submitted for inclusion in this exhibit.

LIABILITY WAIVER

I wish to have The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc., (“TAG”) consider my artwork for exhibition as indicated in this Registration Form, and I acknowledge that TAG has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose the artwork to be exhibited. I also acknowledge that unrelated business or other activities may or will take place at the exhibition location during the exhibition and I assume any risk associated with such activities. I further acknowledge that I have been notified that I should carry my own insurance to be protected against loss, theft or damage to my artwork. I fully understand and agree that the following waiver, release and hold harmless agreement is binding on my heirs, assigns and legal representatives. THE ART GUILD is pleased to sponsor scholarships for graduating seniors who attend high school in Nassau County. Scholarships will be awarded to students who will pursue the visual arts following their high school graduation, and who have demonstrated their commitment to any of the visual arts. This includes, but is not limited to: drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion design, set design, photography and architecture. If you are in theater/set design, you must have had a major part in the design and creation of the described sets/props etc. Award recipients will be selected by The Art Guild. All decisions are final.

AWARDS CEREMONY: Members Showcase June 6th, 2025

Please note requirements listed below:

  • Students who apply MUST be graduating seniors and attend high school in Nassau County.
  • Students must be pursuing the visual arts following their high school graduation.
  • We welcome drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion design, set design, and photography. If you are in theater/set design, you must have had a major part in the design and creation of the described sets/props etc.
  • You must submit a jpg of each of the five artworks in your portfolio and describe your creative process.

A Photography Juried Competition & Exhibition

Black and white and monochrome photography often evoke much emotion, nostalgia, and narrative. The absence of color helps the viewer see the subject, the contrasts, and the important elements of the image without distractions. This call for monochromatic and black and white photography includes both analog or digital formats of image capture and output. A variety of subjects will be considered and include but are not limited to: landscape, portraiture, still life, photojournalism, architectural, abstract or alternative processes.

High School students are invited to submit artwork for consideration for this exhibit.

Please be aware that the digital images you send should look as good as they possibly can. These will be the images that will be will be reviewed by our curators and displayed in our online gallery. FINALISTS:

The Selection Committee will review all entries and notify each artist as to the acceptance of the submitted work. High school students will be reviewed and judged separately. The Art Guild has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose which eligible entries will be accepted to be exhibited. All decisions are final. Artists whose work has been selected will be notified either by email OR on our website.

SIZE & FRAMING

Frame size must not exceed 36” on the longest side. Gallery wraps are acceptable, but must be at least 1” thick and must not exceed 36″ on the longest side.

It must be wired securely for hanging with screw eyes or D-rings to the frame, NOT the backboard. No sawtooth hangers, tape, strings.  We can wire for you for a $10 fee.

Work must be labeled on the back with the title, artist’s name, street address, phone number, and email.

Framing of your work must comply with the above OR IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

SELLING YOUR ARTWORK

Artwork may be sold directly by the artist with a suggested donation of 20% of the selling price from the artist to The Art Guild. Note, however, that sales may not be made at the exhibition.

All work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibit.

LIABILITY & INSURANCE

The Liability Waiver on the entry form must be signed by the artist submitting images for consideration. It is the responsibility of the participating artist to insure or self-insure any work submitted for inclusion in this exhibit.

LIABILITY WAIVER

I wish to have The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc., (“TAG”) consider my artwork for exhibition as indicated in this Registration Form, and I acknowledge that TAG has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose the artwork to be exhibited. I also acknowledge that unrelated business or other activities may or will take place at the exhibition location during the exhibition and I assume any risk associated with such activities. I further acknowledge that I have been notified that I should carry my own insurance to be protected against loss, theft or damage to my artwork. I fully understand and agree that the following waiver, release and hold harmless agreement is binding on my heirs, assigns and legal representatives. Come and meet Dan Welden, Judge for our Abstract Show as he presents his film “Lasting Impressions”

Join us in a 58-minute intimate journey through the life & work of world renowned painter/printmaker, innovator and teacher, Dan Welden, and a Q&A session. Told in chapters as art unfolds through the thoughts and observations of his friends & colleagues including Kiki Smith, Eric Fischl, Alice Aycock, Helen A. Harrison among others. This film conveys the essence of the artist and also explores inspirations and motivations that drive the act of creativity. Filmed on location in Sag Harbor and The Catskills with support from Freudenberg Arts and Inspiration Plus Foundation the production revolves around the artist’s creativity and innovative thinking. Directly following the screening will be a Q&A session.

As the original pioneer of alternative printmaking since 1970, Dan Welden has been in the forefront of ‘health and safety’ in the arts.  As co-author of ‘PRINTMAKING IN THE SUN’ and director of Hampton Editions, Ltd., his 50 plus years of collaboration include artists such as Willem de Kooning, Eric Fischl, Kiki Smith, and Dan Flavin.  He has received international recognition through his residencies in China, Belgium, Cuba, Peru New Zealand, Australia, and other countries.

 

With 102 solo exhibitions to date, including the paramount exhibitor at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and travels to 54 countries on all seven continents, he was awarded a ‘lifetime achievement award’ from A/E Foundation in New York; a title of Professor Emeritus from Escuela de Bellas Artes in Cusco, Peru and most recently a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant.

I  am an experimenter, explorer and a seeker of beauty. When I set out to  work, there is no image in mind, but the vision unfolds as the work  evolves. It usually begins with simple forms and marks with broad areas.  It then becomes more refined and delicate and knits itself together  through line.

I am a process person, interested in employing  materials and techniques to the ‘landscape’ of my mind. My drawings,  paintings and prints evolve from the idea of linear pathways echoing  from the tracks of animals in nature, fissures in rock palisades and the  patterns created by my hands becoming ‘playful’ with my tools.  

Learning  to read a printing plate before inking, is like sensing the log before  wielding the axe. So goes my act of creativity, being aware of what  resonates in front of me and responding with marks, colors and  textures.

A Landscape Photography Exhibit at St. Francis Hospital

The Art Guild is thrilled to announce an exciting, new partnership with St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center to install a photography exhibition which epitomizes the philosophy of “Long Live Long Island – A Landscape Exhibit.”

We encourage all photographers to use their vision and creativity to articulate this philosophy. Photography of uplifting and inspirational subject matter of Long Island including but not limited to landmarks, landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes. Artwork will be on display for approximately six months at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center.

Artists age 16 and older are invited to submit artwork for consideration for this exhibit.

Deadline: October 28, 2024, 10pm

Exhibit on View: December 13, 2024 – June 15, 2025 in the EP Hallway

SIZE & FRAMING

Photographers chosen to participate will be required to deliver an unframed print of their work with an image size of 16”x 24”.
No borderless or other sized prints will be accepted.

The Art Guild will provide and use mats with an opening of  5.75”x23.75” and 22”x28” frames for presentation. All mats will be bright white, and the frames will be simple black with acrylic cover (no glass for safety reasons in the hospital setting.)
