Continue using watercolor techniques of washes, wet on wet painting and dry brush methods. We will move beyond the basics, creating a series of more complex paintings. Completing our own interpretations of projects presented in class. Some previous knowledge of watercolor recommended.

Watercolor is a truly diverse medium. Explore basic techniques of washes, learn wet on wet painting, glazing and drybrush methods. We will begin to understand the properties of pigments and when to use them properly. Watercolor is always challenging, fresh and new. No experience necessary, beginners welcome.

DRAWING & PAINTING THE PORTRAIT

Ages 18-Adult, open to 8 students. All levels welcome.

Learn the basic elements of drawing the head, from a live model and from photographs. This class will help you obtain a close likeness. You can paint or draw using charcoal, pastels, oil or acrylics. Bring medium of your choice and a 12″ x 16″ (or larger), pad or canvas to the first class. Individual attention will be given.

DRAWING AND PAINTING FOR TEENS

Ages 12-18, open to 8 students. All levels welcome.

This class begins with choosing a subject—a landscape, still life, or portrait.  Working from photos or actual objects, studies will first be done on paper using pencil, then colored pencil, and re-drawn onto canvas. Learn to paint with acrylics, pastels, or watercolors.

CHILDREN’S ART STUDIO

We will focus on drawing from a still life, doing self-portraits, learning perspective and working from our imaginations. Students will explore different media including pencil and charcoal and as well as color media.  We will also work with sculpture materials. Emphasis is on fundamentals of drawing in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Students should wear old clothes to class.

ART EXPLORATIONS

Ages 5-7, open to 8 students
8 Thursdays: Mar 17, 24, 31; Apr 7, 14, 28; May 5, 12 • 4:00-5:15pm

Young artists will explore different materials including drawing, tempera paint, collage, cut shapes, constructions and more. Emphasis is on the tactile and using our imaginations. Each week we will create a special project. Students should wear a smock or old clothes.
