DATE TO CREATE

Our fundraising event, A Date to Create event was a success thanks to our incredible community.
We had an amazing turnout, with plenty of art-making, music, and treats. We were so thrilled that Nassau County Executive, Laura Curran, attended and expressed her support of arts in the community.

The Art Guild invites all artists, high school and older, to submit artworks for consideration for “ORANGE YOU GLAD IT’S AUTUMN”, a Juried Competition and Exhibition.

The air is getting crisper as the days get shorter ushering in Autumn. We invite artists to submit work that epitomizes the changing season. Is it color scenery, a memory or objects that recall this cycle of change?

CRITERIA All styles from non-objective to abstracted realism are welcome. All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. References used in the creation of the submitted work must be the artist’s own, or copyright-released for use in this work. Works previously exhibited at The Art Guild Gallery will not be considered.

MEDIUMS: Included but not limited to acrylic, charcoal, collage, colored pencil, digital art, ink, mixed media, oil, pastel, pencil, photography, printmaking, sculpture, or watercolor. No Copies, Master Copies, Reproductions or Giclees.

SIZE AND FRAMING: Size, with frame, must not exceed 36” on the longest side.  Work should be cleanly matted and/or framed (if appropriate), wired securely for hanging, with the wire attached via screw eyes or D-rings to the frame (not the backboard).  Gallery wraps are acceptable, but they must be a least 1” thick with all edges painted and no staples showing. No saw tooth hangers, tape or string on the back.  Work must be labeled with artist’s name, phone number and email address.

Framing of your work must comply with the above OR IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

JUDGE: Debbie Wells is the co-founder of Artful Circle (www.artfulcircle.com) with Franklin Hill Perrell, former Chief Curator of the Nassau County Museum of Art. She researches, designs and  presents Artful Circle’s virtual and in-person lectures, as well as co-curate museum and gallery exhibitions in NYC and Long Island. Sona Hyde

Sona Hyde

Gallery Manager

Sona Hyde has been a local Port Washington resident for the past 12 years. Before coming to The Art Guild, she spent 10 years volunteering with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. Sona is also a freelance web designer, so in addition to her Gallery Manager responsibilities she also helps with the organization’s technology needs.

Sona’s interest in art developed after working many years in Corporate Banking. She wanted to explore her creative side and took design classes at the Parson’s School of Design and tech classes at the Chubb Institute of Technology. She started working as a web designer and eventually started freelancing.

The best part of The Art Guild is all the creativity that is constantly flowing. It is an amazing place to develop and explore your craft.

When she is not working, Sona enjoys spending time on outdoor adventures with her husband and two children.

Her love of art lies in the fiber arts as she is an avid knitter.
