for High School Seniors in Nassau County

2023 Kazickas Family Foundation Scholarship Winners

The Art Guild is pleased to offer three Kazickas Family Foundation $1,000 Art Scholarships for graduating seniors who attend high school in Nassau County and will pursue the visual arts following their high school graduation. The scholarships were funded by a generous donation by Marceil and John Kazickas of The Kazickas Family Foundation. Applicants have demonstrated their commitment to any of the visual arts, including but is not limited to: drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion design, set design, photography and architecture.

 

2023 Scholarship Winners 

Congratulations to the 2023 recipients. Our scholarship judge, Stephanie Navon-Jacobson, reviewed all the applications and artwork and selected the three recipients. Marceil Kazickas of the Kazickas Family Foundation presented the scholarships to:

2022 Recipients

Congratulations to the 2022 recipients. Our scholarship judge, Dawn Lee, reviewed all the applications and artwork and selected the three recipients. Dawn Lee and Marceil Kazickas were present to award the scholarships to:

Safia Fatimi

Board Member

After Safia Fatimi received a B.S. in Bio-medical Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1994, she worked as a commercial photographer in New York City photographing fashion, beauty, portraiture, and stock for various magazines, record companies, and advertising agencies.

In 2005, Safia received an M.A. in Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. In 2015, she returned to Columbia University to research adolescent smartphone and digital camera photography and received her doctoral degree in 2021.

Safia has been included in various group and solo exhibitions throughout her career. Currently, she teaches photography, graphic design, filmmaking, and ceramics at Great Neck South High School. She resides with her family in Port Washington, NY.

Esther Marie Caponigro

Abstract Watercolors Instructor

A native of Long Island, Esther Marie actively exhibits in many art-related gallery shows, auctions, and events both nationally and internationally. She works for clients in New York City and across the country. She has also shown her work globally, as far away as South Korea.

Esther Marie was awarded a fellowship and hand-selected for a renowned art residency at The Chautauqua Institution in upstate New York, as well as a full scholarship to the Vermont Studio Center. Esther Marie’s paintings are in several private as well as permanent collections. She mostly concentrates on Plein Aire and abstract painting and has shown at numerous galleries in the Northeast of the United States. Esther Marie was named “Best in Show” at the Northport Plein Aire event. In perhaps her best achievement yet, she was chosen to be in the exclusive Heckscher Museum of Art Long Island Biennial.

Aside from painting, Esther Marie enjoys teaching art, yoga, meditation, dancing, poetry, and chess. She lives and works as an art instructor and adjunct professor in Long Island, New York.
