High School Students’ Portfolio Development Studio
For Students Grades 9 – 12
Eight Weeks • Thursdays • 6 – 8 pm

(No class Thursday, November 23, Thanksgiving)
$200 per student
This eight-week course is designed to assist the advanced drawing/painting/2-D design student entering their freshman through senior year. Instructor will mentor and critique pre-assigned projects (Advanced Placement portfolio, college admissions, scholarships, and student exhibitions) or can assign projects. There will be open studio time for students to work with the aid of the instructor to learn or enhance a specific skill or technique.
Classes will cover techniques and proper usage of various mediums including colored pencils, pastels, oils and acrylics, color theory and composition. Practical knowledge such as how to frame, mat and photograph work will be covered as well as how to name and format digital files. Guest speakers will stop by to demonstrate various techniques and skills. At least two opportunities will be given to draw/paint from a live model.
Students will be asked to keep a sketchbook or journal, and create written artist statements that explore and defend their process and work.
Students should bring a sketchbook, a pad of 18” x 24” drawing paper (not newsprint), 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B pencils and a kneaded eraser, and 4 – 6 samples of their work to the first class.
