Embrace the Practice – Daily Painting Workshop
with Lisa Daria Kennedy
Two-Days: August 4-5, 2018, 9:30 am – 4 pm
$350M/$380NM

This two-day workshop combines demos, in-class assignments and individual instruction to teach students the techniques Lisa Daria Kennedy uses to create fresh, deliberate marks. Using acrylic paint (or oils) students will discover approaches to simplify the process of painting and ways to stay inspired and motivated. Continuous painting is by far the most effective way to improve creativity and image making skills. She will share examples of how the discipline of daily painting produces personal growth. The class will delve into the principles of design, composition, value, and color. We will examine color mixing, mark making, and personal voice. Lastly, we will discuss practical strategies for painting every day (or almost every day).

From Lisa Daria Kennedy: I mark each day with a painting. After 2100 days (including Christmas) I’ve no intention of stopping. I use painting as an insistent act of documentation and with it, record weeks, months, and years. Collectively, painting for me, becomes a timeline of choices and happenstance.
Having had cancer as a young adult, I discovered living is not just surviving. I want to embrace each day, no matter how typical, so without excuse or hesitation, I begin each day by painting. The on-going nature of my practice leaves me rooting for the next day, while the parameters of my work keep me focused on the simplicities of my immediate surroundings. The small, intimate paintings of ordinary subjects create a structural framework of self-preservation. Each of these daily exercises is a vital component of the project’s ongoing, infinite progression.
