12/4, 2011 – 3/29, 2012, HOME AWAY FROM HOME

THE ART GUILD’S “HOME AWAY FROM HOME” EXHIBIT

The Art Guild’s, “Home Away From Home,” exhibit is currently on view through March 29, 2012 in the community room at the Manhasset Public Library, 30 Onderdonk Ave in Manhasset. Following the fire last August at The Art Guild’s home in Nassau County’s Elderfields Historic Preserve, the Manhasset Library invited members of the guild to exhibit in the library’s gallery space. Please call 516 627-2300 for viewing times.

Sixty-one quality artworks rendered in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, graphite, mixed media and photography are on view in this exhibit.  The juror of awards, Long Island artist and instructor, Robert Cariola, selected the pieces to receive awards during the Artists’ Reception held on December 10. First prize was awarded to Raymond Gomez (Northport), for his acrylic on metal painting, “Night City.” Diana DeSantis (Whitestone), won second place for her pastel figure painting, “Pigeon, ” and third prize was given to the oil painting, ”Mia,” by Barbara Stein (Port Washington).

Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Carol Bussola (Manhasset), for “Two For The Road;” Arlene Fiorello (Woodside), for “Israel;” Shelli Robiner-Ardizzone (Bronx), for “Snow Day;” Barbara Lewis Spivak (Port Washington), for “33 RPM;” and Susan Tiffen (Roslyn), for “Through The Gate;” Works by student members, Will Rubenstein (Port Washington) and Amy Vitale (Mt. Sinai), are also on exhibit.

ELECTRICAL FIRE AT THE ART GUILD

Electrical Fire at The Art Guild

On Wednesday, August 31, the home of The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc., was forced to close after an electrical fire damaged part of the historic Hewlett-Munson-Williams House on the 3.5 acre Elderfields Historic Preserve. The Art Guild has been providing art classes and workshops for all ages, exhibits which are open to the public, as well as studio space for artists. The extensive damage caused the nonprofit arts organization to disrupt the current photography show and cancel an upcoming show in October. As of now, all workshops, programs, and exhibits are being canceled until further notice. Please check for updates on The Art Guild web site. If you are interested in making a donation and/or know of a suitable temporary space for classes and workshops, please call Shelley Holtzman at 516-944-7595 or Diane Bares at 516-883-4385.
